Organizational Overview:
House of Ruth offers comprehensive services and housing for women and children. Our services range from supportive housing for families and single women in crisis to a therapeutic, developmental daycare for homeless children, and free counseling services for anyone who has been a victim of domestic violence.
Position Summary:
The Development Department of House of Ruth is seeking a Donor Relations Specialist to build lasting relationships with our mid-level donors ($1,000-9,999 cumulative), designing and implementing a range of engagement and stewardship strategies aimed at creating stronger affinity among House of Ruth’s most loyal supporters, and maximizing philanthropic investment.
A key partner in the Development team, the Donor Relations Specialist also identifies and qualifies mid-level donors with the giving capacity and philanthropic propensity to make significant investments ($10,000+) in support of House of Ruth’s funding priorities. This position also helps to identify donors with an interest in naming House of Ruth as a beneficiary of their estate (bequest, life insurance, etc.).
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Engage a portfolio of approximately 900 mid-level donors inclusive of timely donation thank you calls/notes.
- Design, execute, and evaluate tailored cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies, promoting donor-centered approaches as House of Ruth further builds a philanthropic culture organization-wide.
- Project manage the annual donor reception in collaboration with Chief Development Officer.
- Collaborate with direct mail vendor and Chief Development Officer to design and execute upgrade and renewal solicitations.
- Assess and identify donors who are prospects for major and/or planned gifts.
- Assess and identify annual donors with potential to become mid-level donors. Execute a strategy to upgrade those donors.
- Solicit mid-level donors for annual renewals.
- Perform regular analysis of the mid-level program, making recommendations for testing new approaches or retiring underperforming ones.
- Manage personalization of mid-level donor communications and appeals
- Collaborate in the development of key themes, message points, and collaterals
- Track actions, outreach, research, opportunities, and portfolio updates in CRM
- Provide briefings and profiles on donors to internal stakeholders as needed
- Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualification Requirements:
- Possess a college degree
- 3+ years in a nonprofit fundraising position
- Be an effective written and verbal communicator.
- Have the ability to develop strong working relationships with diverse stakeholders.
- Maintain a passion for the mission of House of Ruth and demonstrate organizational core values.
